Arnica
Part used: Whole plant.
Active principles: Cariolan-1, 9-beta-diol and quercetin.
Properties: Anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antiseptic, antibacterial, fungicidal, anti-varicose, cardiotonic, coronary vasodilator, hypotensive, antispasmodic and anti-asthmatic.
Mechanism of action: It preferentially acts on vascular and muscular tissue. Its influence on muscle fiber causes action at the circulatory level in capillaries and arteries. Its anti-inflammatory effect is related to the inhibition of oxidative phosphorylation. It increases blood flow in the affected area, avoiding the appearance of bruises, calming pain and avoiding inflammation that occurs after a blow or contusion. It calms pain and improves muscular and nervous weakness.
Indications: Muscle pain, rheumatism, arthritis in general in conditions that cause pain and inflammation.
Contraindications: The arnica heterotheca variety is considered a safe plant.
